Transformation of Freedom

tofWhile 1976 was an electrifying time in the US as we all sat watching Bruce Jenner achieve greatness in the Olympics and the coveted Wheaties Box … and there is absolutely no question that Caitlyn Jenner not only rocked the Versace but her speech at the ESPY awards was inspirational and the sentiments need to be repeated over and over until the words no longer need to be said … and kudos to her fabulous transformation of freedom into herself finally after 65 years of struggle; every single person on this earth deserves the right to be happy in their skin, if you approve of their choices or not, so glad she got there before it was too late … however, what that took was money and the personal choice to do it in front of cameras, not courage … when a grown man comes into your business in the early 90’s and with tears in his eyes thanks you and your husband for treating him like a real person because he isn’t used to that treatment in his daily life, you’ve seen courage … so in my opinion, outside of the brave men and women that put their lives on the line for our freedom daily, true courage was being an open member of the LGBT community in the 80’s and 90’s, and yes sadly in some places still today … though none of them received gold metals or nationally televised awards that I know of, I hope they’ve all found the same freedom and happiness for their fabulous selves, and trust me, they know fabulousness!

And as always, you don’t know everyone’s story or struggles, and regardless of your race, nationality, sexual orientation, day you take out the trash or have your nails done, just like you, everyone else is just trying to do their best in this crazy world, fighting to stay alive and trying to find their own happiness, which may not mirror yours but it doesn’t make it wrong, just wrong for you, and that’s what makes you a fabulous fucking individual!
